Tas: Elderly woman dies after car crash

HOBART, April 28 AAP - An 85-year-old woman has died after a three car collision in
Tasmania's north.

A front-seat passenger in a Ford Laser, the Bridport woman died in the Launceston Hospital
soon afterwards.

She was admitted to hospital in a stable condition, police said.

The collision occurred at 1.50pm (AEST) today, when the Laser, driven by a 34-year-old
Scottsdale woman, crossed to the wrong side of the the Bass Highway near Westbury, police
said.

"The vehicle has crossed to the wrong side of the road and sideswiped a white 1991
Mitsubishi Triton dual cab utility, that was towing a trailer," a police spokesman said.

The ute was driven by a 43-year-old Westbury man, with a 40-year-old man and a 10-year-old
girl as passengers.

The Laser then crashed with a Toyota Camry sedan, which was driven by a 44-year-old
Launceston man.

The Laser's driver and elderly passenger were taken to hospital soon after the crash
but the elderly woman sustained fatal injuries.

"The occupants of the other vehicles were not injured," the police spokesman said.

Witnesses to the collision are urged to contact the Launceston Accident Investigation
Section on 03 6336 3936.
