Qld: Govt to unveil Gold Coast rapid transit plan

BRISBANE, Aug 22 AAP - The Queensland government will today unveil how it plans to
build a $1.67 billion rapid transit project on the Gold Coast.

Transport Minister John Mickel will this morning visit the region to reveal the recommendations
of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit business case.

The project - a partnership between the state government and Gold Coast City Council
- aims to provide a link from the Gold Coast rail line at Helensvale to Griffith University
and the centres of Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, the Gold Coast Airport, and
ultimately to Coolangatta town centre.

The method of transport - light rail or buses - and exact route have yet to be decided.
