SA: Mitsubishi to start exporting cars to Thailand

ADELAIDE, Dec 10 AAP - Adelaide-based car producer Mitsubishi expects to take its first
orders next week from distributors in Thailand as it breaks into another export market.

The company showed its export version of the Magna, the Diamante, at the Bangkok Motor
Show earlier this month and said the car was received enthusiastically by the dealer network.

It said it now expected to take initial orders next week and then start shipping cars
before the end of the year.

Mitsubishi president Tom Phillips said the company had modest initial sales expectations.

"It is another example of Mitsubishi being at the forefront of the Australian auto
industry and exporting our quality Australian-made vehicles to a country that we haven't
been able to before," he said.

"We continue to look for new export opportunities throughout the world, as I know that
the quality of the cars we build is the equal of any other country."

Mitsubishi's decision to ship cars to Thailand follows the signing of a free trade
agreement between the Thai and Australian governments.

It also follows Holden's decision to also ship cars to the country.

Mitsubishi already exports to a variety of countries including the United States, various
Middle Eastern destinations and New Zealand.
